At Box Tree Farm, our commitment to sustainable agriculture and animal welfare is at the heart of everything we do. Our herd of 130 British Friesian cows is the backbone of our dairy operation. These beautiful, hardy animals are well-suited to the lush pastures of Devon, where they graze freely on our 134 acres of grassland. We believe that happy, healthy cows produce the highest quality milk, which is why we prioritize their well-being above all else.
In addition to our dairy herd, we have made the decision to keep our beef calves and raise them for meat. This approach allows us to have greater control over the quality of our beef and ensures that our animals are raised in accordance with our high standards of care.
Our cattle are raised on a grass-based diet, supplemented with homegrown silage and hay during the winter months. This natural diet not only keeps our animals healthy but also contributes to the rich, delicious flavor of our dairy and beef products.
As part of our commitment to sustainability, we have embraced innovative technologies and practices that minimize our environmental impact. Our partnership with Bennamann and their groundbreaking methane capture system has allowed us to significantly reduce our carbon footprint by capturing and utilizing the methane produced by our cattle's waste.
We are also proud participants in the Mid-tier Stewardship Scheme, which has enabled us to invest in the long-term health and biodiversity of our land. By installing water troughs in every grazing field and fencing our boundaries, we have created a haven for wildlife while ensuring that our cattle have access to clean, fresh water at all times.
